We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and managing our operational and office waste appropriately. Operational wastes including waste oil, scrap metal and waste water are recycled. Waste oil from scrapped equipment is recycled via an accredited company, while any scrap metals such as copper, steel and aluminium are also recycled when equipment is refurbished. CitiPower's waste water is also recycled through partnerships with Collex, who uses the water for its soil treatment facility, and Barry Brothers, Telstra and the City of Port Phillip, who use the recycled water to irrigate municipal parks and gardens.
We have joined the Victorian Government's Waste Wise program. To meet the accreditation requirements of a Waste Wise business we conducted an internal waste audit and designed and implemented a waste reduction strategy that included placing new recycling bins in all kitchens and discontinued use of plastic cups. Use of plastic cups has subsequently been discontinued across the business.
We have developed a policy to ensure all computer monitors and hardware are recycled. Those in working condition are made available to employees at discounted prices or donated to charities and community groups. All other hardware is recycled via registered contactors. We also recycle all toner cartridges.
In addition to implementing opportunities to maximise recycling in the office we also encourage our employees to recycle products from home such as DVDs, CDs, corks and batteries. We have partnered with Green Collect, a not for profit organisation, to collect and recycle this waste.
We recycle our fluorescent lighting tubes and employees are encouraged to bring in their compact fluorescent light globes for recycling. We also encourage paper recycling and have recycling bins in all utility/print rooms.
