Supporting Education

2006 marked a five year partnership between Powercor and three schools in its distribution area - Stawell Secondary College, Mount Clear College and Murtoa College. Through the Education Foundation, Powercor has been supporting these schools in their individual environmental projects.

Each of the projects has resulted in positive environmental outcomes. Mount Clear College has set themselves the challenge of creating a rail trail along the old Buningyong railway line.

At Murtoa College the focus has been on developing a bird corridor from the College to Lake Marma, including the construction of a boardwalk to view land and water birds.

Students at Stawell Secondary College have concentrated on the environmental and historical significance of the local Pleasant Creek. The school has worked with local organisations to develop a plan to protect the biodiversity of the area and develop a walking and cycling trail.

All three projects have proved successful in engaging students in activities beyond the classroom, and have also given them the opportunity to work with their broader communities, which have been very supportive of their work.
