New Gisborne Zone Substation caters for growing region

18 November 2011

Launched at a groundbreaking ceremony on 17 November, Powercor's new $13.7 million Gisborne Zone Substation will cater for the region’s expected growth in electricity demand. It will ensure the security and reliability of electricity supply in a growing part of Victoria.

The new substation will deliver electricity to more than 7,200 customers in Gisborne, New Gisborne, Macedon, Mount Macedon, and Riddells Creek.  It will provide extra capacity in the network to cater for the vigorous growth in the area. It will also contribute to improved reliability, by establishing shorter lines of supply and removing the need to carry the power through the rugged terrain of the Macedon Ranges to service these communities.

The Woodend Zone Substation currently serves some 22,000 homes and businesses in Macedon Ranges area. Once completed in 2012, the new Gisborne Zone Substation will free up capacity in the Woodend Zone Substation to better service the regions in and around Woodend and Kyneton.

CitiPower and Powercor CEO, Shane Breheny joined Macedon Ranges Shire Mayor, Cr Henry McLaughlin, to turn the first sod of earth, commencing construction of the new substation.
