CitiPower and Powercor Australia’s roll out of smart meters and the communications infrastructure that supports them is being undertaken in accordance with a Victorian Government mandate, to install more than one million smart meters across our distribution networks by the end of 2013.
The roll out has been very successful, with more than 185,000 meters installed to date, and is continuing on time and on budget.
Once these meters and supporting communications network are fully operational, the meters will be capable of registering more sophisticated time of use pricing, but at present, smart meters will continue to operate in the same way as customers’ conventional meters.
It is important to note that Time of Use Pricing operates for many CitiPower and Powercor customers now, in the form of peak and off peak electricity. These customers will continue to enjoy peak and off peak tariff structures before and after receiving a smart meter.
We have not introduced any new time-of-use network tariffs, and there will be no effective changes to the network tariffs charged to CitiPower and Powercor customers during 2010.
Your retailer will advise you of any tariff changes before they take effect.
