Scholarships, graduates, apprenticeships

We are committed to empowering our people and encouraging career development in multiple areas relevant to our network operations, maintenance, and management.

Scholarship Program

One of the key focus areas of the CitiPower Powercor Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is promoting gender diversity.

Since 2017 CitiPower and Powercor have partnered with three universities (Monash, Melbourne and RMIT) to offer the opportunity for female electrical engineering students from each university to obtain a three-year scholarship.

The scholarship provides financial support, an opportunity to undertake 12 weeks of paid vacation work with CitiPower and Powercor, and access to one of our people as a mentor.

Each university typically advertises the scholarship program through their website, specific course coordinators, and targeted emails to eligible students.

Applicants are required to apply with their CV, cover letter, and personal statement and apply through their respective university portals.

Graduate program

Our Graduate Development Program is designed for Electrical Engineers and provides the ability for graduates to rotate through different parts of the business. At the conclusion of the program, Graduates will be offered permanent positions within the business based on current business needs.

Our program is fun, challenging, hugely rewarding, and provides you with life tools, challenges, skills, and hands-on experience in our business.

By joining our Graduate Program, you can become a specialist in your chosen field, a problem solver, a future leader and kick start your engineering career with the best in the business.

Our Company takes enormous pride in our Graduate group and ensures that each Graduate can put theory into practice by delivering projects and solving problems as part of a team of highly motivated professionals. You will be exposed to high tech disciplines, new technologies, and key project work over your rotations, honing your business and analytical skills.

The number of graduates participating in the program varies each year.

We offer apprenticeships providing paid work while you gain an industry recognised trade qualification.

If you’re interested in a career in an electrical trade, then you could be trained by some of the best in the business at CitiPower and Powercor.

Our four-year apprenticeships combine TAFE study and on-the-job practical experience. You’ll work outdoors, in all conditions, and you’ll need to be comfortable working at heights on ladders and elevated work platforms.

Apprenticeship opportunities are usually advertised in September. Check  Current Career Opportunities and follow our  LinkedIn  and  Facebook  pages for details as they become available.

An online application will generally take about 30 minutes to complete. You’ll be asked to answer some general questions and provide a resume and cover letter.

Once applications have closed we undertake a thorough screening process and if short-listed you may be contacted to undertake either a brief telephone discussion and/or completion of numerical, aptitude and mechanical reasoning testing.

Further selection activities will involve a video interview, followed by a face-to-face panel interview and participation in a practical field exercise (held at the Regional Depot of your preferred location).

The final stage will include a working at heights assessment followed by some pre-employment checks.
