Delivering local upgrades as winter power demand surges

Winter power demand surges

We're busy rollout out local network upgrades to meet surging winter power demand, especially in older areas such as inner-city Melbourne and regional cities like Ballarat, as more people electrify their heating, transport and more.

Households in Victoria are using more power than ever before, particularly in winter, as more Victorians switch over to forms of electric heating.

In Ballarat last month, we upgraded part of the low voltage network supplying around 40 properties, after customers reported volts dropping too low at times of peak demand. Undervoltage can result in appliances no working properly, flickering lights, EV charging issues, and inadequate heating performance.

Power use in Ballarat has been growing steadily over the years, but the winter months particularly have risen dramatically in recent years.

The works are part of a major $134 million investment in targeted network upgrades in areas where customers experience poor power quality at times of peak demand.
