Powercor is conducting a major maintenance blitz in parts of northern Victoria next week to keep the electricity network safe and reliable for the community.
On Thursday, 7 May, Powercor crews will carry out maintenance at the Cohuna Zone Substation, which supplies Cohuna, Pyramid Hill, Leitchville, Gunbower and surrounding areas.
Crews will also upgrade the main supply line from Kerang, along with other network assets including poles, transformers, insulators and switches.
Powercor Project Manager Trevor Laffy said the maintenance blitz focused on strengthening the network.
“Homes and businesses rely on our network each day, and completing this essential work now helps keep their power supply safe and reliable,” Mr Laffy said.
To allow crews to complete the work safely, some planned power outages are required.
Powercor has organised generators to keep large sections of the Cohuna, Leitchville, Gunbower and Pyramid Hill townships on supply for most of the day, ensuring shops, schools, service stations and medical facilities are available for local communities. A short outage will occur between 4.30pm and 6pm as crews safely switch supply back to the network.
Powercor will also switch more than 530 customers to other parts of the network to keep them on power during the work.
Customers outside township areas will experience a planned outage at 8am to between 4.30pm and 6pm, depending on progress of the works.
Powercor has notified all affected customers about the work and planned outage times, giving them time to organise backup supplies or make alternative arrangements.
Mr Laffy said Powercor had also taken steps to reduce the impact on customers during the works as much as possible.
“We’ve bundled together different maintenance jobs and brought crews in from depots across our network so we can complete this work in one day and avoid the need for customers to experience multiple power outages,” he said.
“We understand any power outage can be inconvenient and want to thank customers for their patience as we conduct this essential work.”
