Upgrading the network to meet growing demand

Network planning & projectsNetwork innovationNetwork upgrades to support growing electricity demand

We’re upgrading our network to keep power safe and reliable for our customers.

As more homes and businesses switch to electric appliances like induction cooktops, heat pump heating/cooling, hot water systems and electric vehicle charging, we need to upgrade the electricity network to support growing demand.

Thats why we are proactively delivering these upgrades in residential areas across our network. We commonly replace an existing pole with a slightly taller one that has a substation mounted on it. New wires are then installed above the existing powerlines.

These improvements are helping us maintain a safe, reliable power supply for all customers, and allowing everybody to install the appliances they want.

We have answered frequently asked questions below, or you can download our fact sheet for more information.

Did You Know?

We recently asked customers experiencing low voltage how it affected their daily lives. They told us:

  1. “Low voltage is worse than a power outage”.
  2. “Flickering lights are so annoying that sometimes I just sit in the dark”.
  3. “Sometimes my EV charger switches off randomly overnight, which means I can’t drive to work in the morning”.

Our upgrades are helping to maintain a stable supply of power to all customers so their appliances work reliably.
